How are GMAT scores calculated? (Discussion)

Hi Friends,

I’m a GMAT newbie. Recently,I took a few GMAT preparation-tests. Am not able to calculate my total score(out of 800), even the test software does not show the total score, instead it shows only the number of correct answers in each section.

I got this score :

Quant: 22/37 Verbal: 26/41

Can anyone pls tell me how to scale this to the total score(out of 800).

thanks, Neetu

I’m not entirely sure, but as far as I know there’s no solid system to convert these rough figures into a score out of 800. The reason is that questions are not weighed equally- harder ones are worth more, while some test questions aren’t actually scored, so the number of correct answers doesn’t actually mean a whole lot.
Since this is only a software test, you should take this is a rough indication of where you stand in terms of . I would keep practicing until I am able to answer correctly a percent of the questions which I’m happy about- for example, if you’re aiming for the 80th percentile in the GMAT, you should practice at least until you can answer 80 of the practice questions correctly.

    Neetu,

I agree with oLahav; there is no way to translate accurately what you got to a GMAT score.

But there is a much better solution: download the GMATPrep® Software (http://www.gmac.com/gmac/thegmat/testtakersupport/gmattestprepmaterials.htm) and enjoy the 2 full tests. This SW is available from the guys who organize the real test, and it proved really reliable (at least for me).

    Regards

One short cut, but not accurate, way to estimate your score:

(No. of right answers in Verbal + No. of right answers in Quant) * 10

Hence, your score will be roughly 480.
