manjusiri saidTue, 21 Apr 2009 22:53:04 -0000 ( Link )

Hi everyone,

I have taken GMAT recently and my score is only 540. Also this was my second attempt. I have decided to take it again and I am going to sit for the exam after one month from now. Can someone help me to reach 700 in my next attempt?

I have prepared both OG and Manhattan till now. Are there any other books that I should follow? Also, I thought that I was good in Quant but realized the fact after seeing my score . So any tips to improve my Quant score?

    Hi,

You socred 560 in your second attempt. Reaching a score of 700 from 560 in a span of one month is really a tough job. Also you said that you have gone through Manhattan and OG. So you have already gone through the correct material for your preparation. Despite of this your score in the second attempt is 560. So I can only conclude that you are not good at your basics. So you have build on them. How good are you at Inequalities, Geometry, Statistics and Permutation & Combination? If you are comfortable in these areas I am sure you can push your Quant score from 42 to 48 quite comfortably. A score of Q45 and V28 will give you 630. So if you are planning to push it to 700, I think you have to give some more time.

    Coming to your Verbal Ability…..

I think you have to concentrate on the basics of grammar and then review Manhattan Material. This is the only way I see to improve your Sentence Completion score. Did you go through the Manhattan Critical Reasoning Bible? This is the book that you help you to improve your score in a short time.

Also go through the Question Bank in our GMAT Prep Community for more practice. Refer to the lessons and take the tests in this community on a regular basis

So I guess for the next 25 days you have to work out your grey areas smartly which definitely requires thorough planning besides execution of the plan as well.

    Wishing you all the best….

    Dear chinni9krishna,

OG—-The Official Guide for GMAT Review, 12th Edition, is published by the Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®), a nonprofit organization of leading business schools around the world that owns and conducts the GMAT. For more information about this book Click Here

Manhattan Sentence Correction is a very popular book for GMAT sentence correction. You can know more about this book by clicking here

Remember there is another book by Manhattan Review which is different from Manhattan. You can download Manhattan Review Sentence Guide by clicking here

Coming to Hyderabad I heard that almost all the renowned institutes like IMS, The Chopras (Kaplan), Manhattan Review, Achievers Point, Manya (Princeton Review) stand on the same ground. The feedback from the students in these institutes is that they are just doing a basic decent job and nothing so special about their classes. In fact the students appreciates the help offered by them in application procedure rather than GMAT prep.

    Hope this helps
