jo, mike, ted and 3 others are sitting in a st.line from left to right. jo cannot sit on the 1st seat, mike cant sit on the 2nd seat and ted cant sit on the 4th seat . how many possible sitting arrangements are possible with the above conditions .

    i think it works out this way … need inputs though as answer is different : 1st seat > 5 ways 2nd seat> 4ways 3rd seat>4ways 4th seat >2ways 5th seat>2ways 6th seat 1 ways so total= 54*4221=320

    answer given is 426 ways. kindly EXPLAIN!

    It can thus happen that the 1st place is occupied by Mike, in this case the second place can be occupied in 5 ways (instead of the 4 ways you considered) also, if 2nd spot is taken by Ted, the 4th place can be occupied in 3 ways (instead of the 2 you considered)... Thus, maximum possible cases will be 55*4321=600. What you have calculated are the minimum possible cases. I still cant figure out how the answeris 426 though…. Anyone else with a different view???
