A majority of commuters listen/listens to music while travelling.

What should be correct?? I think it should be ‘listen’ since subject is plural – majority of commuters..

Yes the answer is listen . Majority . minority can be singular or plural depending on the subject. If subjects is projected as plural ( as majority of students , majority of commuters etc ) then verb will match with plural subject form . eg. majority of commuters listen or majority of students play football.

On the other hand if majority is associated with subject in totality itself then verb form will match with singular subject form. eg. The student majority wants the election to be fair. Refer to Manhattan SC guide for details .
