Which is the hardest part of the GMAT? (Discussion)

oLahav saidTue, 15 Jul 2008 15:55:21 -0000 ( Link )

Is it the quantitative section, with the nasty math concepts you have to know and the confusing data sufficiency tricky questions?

How about the analytical writing sections with the very tight time limit, and the formal analytical tasks you have to actually write?

Maybe it’s the verbal section, with the confusing sentence corrections and frustrating critical reasoning questions?

I personally find the verbal section to be the hardest. Grammar was never my strong point, and the critical reasoning questions just get me every time, they’re very confusing. The reading comprehension also take a while to read over completely, so the time factor is stressful.

Do you agree, or do you find other GMAT sections harder? Please comment below

You can throw grammar, spelling, essays, sentence corrections, paragraphs and maybe even critical reasoning at me and I’d be able to handle them all.

But give me math and I’m done for. Since I’ve discontinued learning it after high school, I can honestly say I’m a little misty in that area of expertise.

So, I’m definitely a stickler for Verbal!

Maths is a big problem at my end as well.. not much maths practice since my college dayz.. Verbal is pretty OK though.. And I like AWAs as well.. They seem much more easier than Quant ;)

i think both are tough. but if u follow the formulae of maths and the rules of english grammar then grammar is too tough.

Although you can’t memorize all of the vocabulary, you’ll be able to know enough to recognize the meaning behind a sentence, even if you don’t know a term or two. The great thing about vocabulary is that over time, you’ll learn to use different words as synonyms for each other. So, if you don’t know one or two vocabulary words you can replace them with similar words you’re comfortable with.

The great thing about the verbal section for me, is that especially in the essays, you can improvise and make it your own. With math, you either get the equation or you don’t.

It depends on your previous learnings. Verbal section may be tougher for Engineers with maths background but may be easy for an English teacher.

i’ve recently picked up books for my GMAT prep.. I took a few tests without much prep and found my Sentence correction section to be completely screwed and even RC(some were way beyond tough ).. Maths was still better ( but Data analysis is tough ) , i realized i can better maths by simply ‘memorizing’ a few formulas and tricks + i love maths personally. Verbal is way tougher, thr r too many grammar rules to know.Besides, nowadays we are used to using English incorrectly most of the time hence its really confusing..

Definitely Verbal…Especially Grammar is something which always fools around with me. It plays a crucial role in sacking my verbal score. Thanks to Critical Reasoning in this section. To certain extent CR helps me to compensate for the loss caused by my Grammar knowledge
