For the first few months I was working as a technical sales executive and then I was promoted to a product manager. I am interested in finance and risk management. I am planning for my MBA in 2009 fall. Plese guide me what will be the correct time to give GMAT and how should I work for it

Congrats on your career success so far. B-schools take career progression into consideration during admission.

For the GMAT, I recommend active participation here. The GMAT Question Bank is probably better than any book you can buy, because it has more questions and gives you a chance to discuss the solutions with others. There’s also quite a few lessons and tests. But most importantly there are well over a thousand others like you preparing for the GMAT here… an opportunity to ask one another for advice, just as you have done.

Where are you thinking of going to b-school? One of India’s IIMs? Or maybe to the US, Canada, or Europe?

    Hey hajarath,
There are various ways to prepare for the GMAT. For starters, like John recommended above, “discussions”http://gmat-prep.learnhub.com/discussions are a great way to find out what people think about the test and some general questions other people have asked.
You should also read lessons will help you figure out the exact format of the test as well as tips on how to get a good score.
And of course, we have a huge Question Bank with tons of questions that can help you prepare for the GMAT.

Good luck! If you have any other questions, post them and we will try to answer them as soon as we can!

    Hi Anujgarg,

You’ll most likely have to complete the IELTS which is a test very similar to TOEFL. You can check out related resources in the TOEFL Community. You may also be required to complete the GMAT in order to submit these scores to your school of choice.

The curriculum I would say depends on what you decide to specialize in for your MBA. What interests would you currently like to pursue?

Hello anujgarg. You should consult the many lessons in our community which provide specific and detailed information regarding content and administration of the test. Regarding scores, nawz05 created an amazing discussion which details some scores for good schools, you may want to look at that.

    Good luck!

    Hey Shanyhosh.

Experience definitely pays to get into a good MBA program, 2 years is usually advisable by most schools. You should also start thinking about taking the GMAT admission test.

You can look for great universities on the LearnHub School Finder, and check out this great discussion by nawazo5 that has a list of the 25 top US business schools, as well as the GMAT scores you’ll need to get in.

Good luck in finding a great MBA program!

    Hi techie_rajan,

Congratulations on having so much experience thus far with Software Management. How did you find the GMAT the first time around? Did you have books to prepare with? 620 actually isn’t too bad of a score, it would bring you into the 75th percentile which pretty good! You may find the GMAT Lessons helpful, since you can find tips and tricks to help you understand the verbal section. As for verbal tutors in New Delhi, I’m not sure, you may want to approach a GMAT testing center. They may be able to find a suitable tutoring location and teacher for you.

    Dear Rahul.

If you are planning to give TAS in 2010 you should start GMAT preparation right now and since you are targeting a score of 700+ you should have some strict plan to achieve that. Joining a coaching institute depends upon your ability and the flexibility that you have. Initially I would suggest you to go through a Diagnostic Test and based on that score we can again discuss about joining an institute.

Coming to the books that you need for your preparation…....

Sentence Correction: Manhattan Sentence correction book
Critical Reasoning : Critical Reasoning Bible.

GMAT Official Guide (OG 11th edition) is mandatory and you can also consider GMAT Official Verbal and Math Review books for more pracitce
