Dear rigma,
GMAT and CAT are quite different exams, at least as far as the pattern of the exam is concerned. You never know what will be the pattern of the CAT 2009 but GMAT is a standardized test with complete information about its pattern. Coming to the standard of the exams, from my personal experience, it is a bit easy to get a good score in GMAT since the quantitative section of GMAT is easy compared to that of CAT. The verbal section of GMAT is quite different from that of CAT. As I told you earlier, we don't know what we are going to face in the CAT exam, but in GMAT since we have the clear information that Critical Reasoning, Sentence Correction and Reading Comprehension constitutes Verbal section of GMAT, we can have a fixed strategy to handle this section.
Dear rigma,
I did not say that vocabulary is tough in GMAT. The Verbal Section of GMAT is such that it will test your critical thinking and comprehension abilities by setting questions in Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension. The questions from Sentence Correction tests your basic knowledge of English usage and grammar. You need to be comfortable with basic vocabulary in order to do well in Reading Comprehension and Sentence Correction. It will also come in handy for your AWA section.
