    Dear John,

GMAT score is scaled to 800. The avg GMAT score for Top B-Schools is 740+. Yes it is quite possible to get 800 out of 800 in GMAT. I still remember that 10 yrs back (in 1998-99) in India only few people used to score 800 in GMAT. I remember that there was only one person who scored 800 in the year 1996 (not sure though). But the situation is quite different now. There are quite good number of students who are able to score 800 these days.

Also, the noticeable factor especially in the last one year is that some B-Schools are granting admission to the International students based on their work experience and academic profile. Of course there were always schools which did not require GMAT. But the noticeable change is that some of the decent and reputed B-Schools started to move away from GMAT. But an international student must take one of the exams: TOEFL and IELTS.

    Dear Anchil.

As far as my knowledge goes there is no way to compensate for the marks in one section by out performing the other section. Both the sections have equal importance and if you are looking to get a good score it is obvious that you need to score well in both the sections. A GMAT score of 740+ reflects that both the Verbal and Math ability of the scorer are very good. So if you score full in Math, you need to score almost full in Verbal as well to reach 780+

    All the best

    Hello,

Though an important benchmark, scholarship decisions are not based on GMAT score alone, just like admissions decisions. Schools take many dimensions of your application into account to determine whether or not to award a scholarship. It is also rare to receive a full scholarship to MBA programs, although it is more common from schools that are generally outside of the top 30 in most rankings.

The best way to position yourself for scholarship awards is to score in the 700s on your GMAT, submit a strong application, and distinguish yourself from other candidates with similar profiles to yours. The admission in the MBA program is a big puzzle work, if one piece is weaker, you want to work on maximizing other areas.

The GPA is very important because it tracks your performance for approximately four very important years and demonstrates your ability to perform in an academic environment. A good score on GMAT can help to balance out a low GPA. If you did not do well in business and quant classes, it is that much more important to excel on the quant portion of the GMAT.

However, do not loose hope since there have been candidates who have made it to reputed B-schools with a low GPA of even 3.0!

    Good luck!

    Hello,

The GMAT though and important benchmark while evaluating an application for MBA degree is the note the sole criteria that determines the admission or even the scholarship.

Please remember the financial assistance in the universities for post graduate international applicants is not sound and is at the lower end for the MBA candidates. However, a good score on both the sections of the GMAT can bring in assistantship but usually after a semester.

I would strongly recommend you opt for other financial sources to meet with the expenses rather than rely to get benefit from the universities. Even if you do manage to avail assistance from the universities, the amount availed would only meet some of the tuition expenses.

For your reference, please find below the link to avail the scholarship from learnhub :

    Good luck!

    Hello,

Though substantial work experience does enhance one's profile, especially while considering a Management degree like MBA, it is not the sole deciding factor and the academic grades, score on the entrance exams etc. all play a vital role.

While the scores on the entrance exams are not dependent on the work experience one has, together they do pave path to good B-schools. I perceive you are considering the GMAT, that is acceptable worldwide, a score of 700+ should help you get through some of the decent B-schools in India and abroad.

    Take care!
