I would also like to note that these are average scores. I believe it means that if you're above them, your chances of acceptance are pretty good, as long as you satisfy most other requirements. You can still get in with slightly lower scores though, if you have a lot of experience, a high GPA, and can write a good application essay. So even if your GMAT score is not too high, don't let your hopes down and do your best.
dear olahav, Hi Bharat here. I scored 590 during my initial attempt. i have an experience of 13 years in the Defence Services in Logistics. what chances do i have for admission in top 25 BSchools/colleges. i have been above 73%in my graduation.
Hello Bharat. Although your GMAT score is lower than the averages you can see above, other factors such as your extensive experience can help. In my opinion, if you have a good TOEFL score (since you may need one to study internationally) and can write a very good application essay and package with great references, you do stand a chance of being accepted. However, since competition for the top 25 schools is extremely fierce, I believe that it would probably be a good idea to try and retake the GMAT and acheive a better score which should put you in a more competitive position.

I'll try to answer most of your questions:
According to scores from the early 2000s (2001-2003), a score of 600 corresponds to approximately the 70th percentile, 650 is the 84th and 700 is about 93rd. Anything above 750 would be considered the 99th percentile (I've taken this from a fairly reliable source, but it may not be perfectly accurate since it is a bit old).
Schools get to see all your scores from the past 5 years. They tend not to look at scores that are any older than 2 years at all. Some schools will care about only the most recent scores, others may look at slightly older ones but won't give it much emphasis.
Job experience is important, some schools require a minimum of 2 years while others may have no minimum requirements at all. However, top schools will ask you to write admission essays to show how you're a leader, how you're involved in your community, prove your intellectual capacity, etc. These leadership roles are more important than job experience.
Tuition fees for Harvard for 2010 students seem to be $43,800 (this may be for national students though, I couldn't find separate international costs yet). Other costs can almost double the costs. However, these institutions also offer lots of financial aid including fellowships, scholarships, grants and loans (with loan repayments/forgiveness programs), and their goal is that anybody who's admitted should be able to attend regardless of financial abilities. Of course, contacting specific schools would help you learn more.

GMAC is the organization that creates and administers the GMAT exam. Once you register for the test and pay the fees of $US 250 you can download practice material from their site (you'll have to register with them anyway if you want to write the GMAT).
Once you write the GMAT you're likely to have to write admission essays for the MBA school of your choice, explaining why you should be admitted using your past work experience and community involvement as examples.

Normally, it is advised to finish GMAT one year in advance to applying for the B-Schools. This will give them sufficient time for the B-School research, writing and reviewing admission essays, SOPs and LORs. Since you are planning for Spring 2010, try to finish your GMAT at least by July. Or you can plan for Fall 2010.
ii) Besides US, please suggest some good MBA colleges (along with the total tution fees) in Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore etc.

Hi everyone… Im an undergrad student in my final year at IIT KGP. I am interested in an MBA but do not want to pusue it without having a hands on experience in an industry. I was planning to give my GMAT just after I graduate, work for 2 years and then apply for an adminssion in a reputed B-School. However, I have recently learnt that although the score is valid for 5 years, top B Schools do not consider scores older 2 years or more. Is this true? If yes, can you please suggest what sould be done by me?

Graduate Management Admissions Test or GMAT is a test which is used to measure the potential of students by assessing their mathematical, verbal and analytical writing skills.
This test is prepared by Pearson Vue at the premises of Graduate Management Admission Council or GMAC. It is Pearson Vue which reports the test score to the universities and institutes.
It is essential to register at least a month in advance of the test. All Indian citizens holding a valid passport are eligible to take the GMAT tests. There are no age or qualification restrictions on taking the GMAT and the examination scores remain valid for a period of 5 years.

Hi,
If you wish to study in USA then almost all universities require 16 years of undergraduate education. That is, four years of education after High School/Junior College.
Most of the universities recommend/require a minimum of two to three years of work experience.
GMAT is required for almost all universities and it should be within the range of 1200-1400 if you wish to make it to the good colleges.
TOEFL is required for admission. The minimum scores required for most universities range from 550 to 600 on the paper based TOEFL and 213 to 250 on the computer based TOEFL.

Yes, you are right. The total score on GMAT is reported on a scale from 200 to 800. The Verbal and Quantitative Scores are reported on a scale of 0 to 60. For the AWA score, the scale is from 0 to 6.

Following are my academic records:

i have strong extra curricular activities in college
I wanted to enquire if i m eligible to get admission into the MBA program of sp jain mumbai or GMBA (SINGAPORE-DUBAI).
Would my chances be better if i apply after gaining two years of work ex(with the same score)as a software engineer or i would be asked to give another attempt at GMAT?

The GMAT scores remain valid for a period of 5 years and hence it would not be required for you to take the GMAT again if you apply after 2 years.
SP.Jain, Mumbai accepts both GMAT and CAT scores with a minimum of 650 on the GMAT.
However, for a GMBA, the eligibility criteria includes full time work experience of at least 3 years or more though at times 2 years of work experience is also given thought.
The above stated gives a clear indication to move ahead for quality work experience to be an eligible candidate for the program of your choice (GMBA) from S.P Jain, Mumbai.

I have recently took my GMAT with a score of 620, I have been in the financial sector for the past fie years, essay and references are great, but I'm worried that my undergrad GPA of 2.2 will keep me out of obtaining my MBA. Would the other criteria, outweigh my undergrad GPA?

This might sound disappointing but generally a GMAT of 650+ is considered by most of the universities. Also, your GPA is likely to be rejected with the minimum requirement being at least 2.5 and could go up to 2.7 for those with a Bachelors in Engineering.
However, other aspects like the work experience are also weighed while evaluating an application.

You would need to prepare for the GMAT GMAT is required for almost all universities in US. It is also one of the most important criteria for admissions. If you are planning to study in a US business school, you must score high in this exam. The Graduate Management Admission Test is a Standardized test that measures verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills. The GMAT tests the fundamental skills - Reasoning and Comprehension included - and does not require any subject-specific theoretical study. The minimum score on the test to be considered in the universities vary as per the admission requirement of the same. However, a minimum of 650+ is considered to be a an average score to be considered in the US universities. The top notch schools would look for even 750+ score on GMAT.

From the sufficed information, I perceive you are considering the Fall session 2011. Though taking GMAT in the month of November should not be much of a problem, but many B-schools in the US have their deadline approximately around that time. If convenient and confident about the preparation, I would recommend you to take the test by October.
With regard to the financial aid for the international students, especially for an MBA program it is important to understand that most universities do not offer financial assistance to international students. The few who manage tuition waivers and assistantships usually get it after they reach the university and usually after a semester. However, merit based assistance is awarded in many forms, from tuition waivers, various types of assistantships, to fellowships. The most common are listed below :
Tuition Waiver : This means that the student does not have to pay the tuition fees at the university. However, general fees (for the use of university facilities like the library, computers, and sports and health services) usually have to be borne by the student. A tuition waiver is frequently awarded in conjunction with a scholarship or teaching/research assistantship.
Scholarship / Fellowship : This is usually an outright grant based on the student’s academic ability and performance and are highly competitive. A full scholarship would pay for a student’s entire living expenses at that university, whereas a partial scholarship would require additional funds from the student. These awards are few and very competitive.
Assistantship : Most students who receive assistance usually do so in the form of an assistantship, i.e. a cash stipend sufficient for their living expenses, and/or tuition waiver. To get this, they have to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week. This work normally consists of teaching and research activities. A good score on the GMAT and TOEFL can help receive such assistance.

GMAT today is accepted by almost 900 B-schools globally. A score of 650 is considered an average score on the GMAT. Reputed and recognized schools often look for a score 700 and above.
Although you must remember GMAT is not the sole deciding factor while considering an application. Depending on the location (UK,UK, Singapore, India etc.) the popularity of GMAT, eligibility criteria can vary. Generally, the other criterion includes a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of work experience.
Please note the above stated are liable to change as per the choice of the program and location. For instance there are universities that offer MBA programs without work experience.
